Macy’s Parades of the Past

As most of you know, we’re bursting at the seams with excitement over our performance in the 85th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. This will be Camp Broadway’s eighth appearance in the Parade, but for most of our Cast Members and Teaching Artists, it is their first jaunt through New York City in the biggest Parade in the world! As Artistic Director, Tony Parise said, it’s “the happiest day in New York!”

The costumes have arrived, the cast has been set, the music has been printed, so all that’s left to do is actually get started with rehearsals! Participants will arrive this Saturday to our home at Pearl Studios for a week-long program of singing, dancing and all things Camp Broadway. We’re even offering a special workshop to parents where they get to try out the Camp Broadway experience for themselves. It’s sure to be a great time for all.

But all of the hubbub surrounding this year’s performance got me wondering about experiences during years past. It began with my daydreaming about what it would have been like to perform in the Parade when I was the age of our Cast Members. It spurred me to go digging in Camp Broadway’s archives and I came away with some real treasures–photos, videos, costume sketches and scripts from past programs.

Can’t wait to make some new memories this year!!!
